WHAT IS CAD (CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE)?

Atherosclerosis (inflammation, fat, calcium deposition etc.) narrows the lumen of the arteries supplying the blood to the heart. This is described as Coronary Arterial Diseases or CAD. Cholesterol & fatty deposits (after getting oxidized) create a swelling inside the arteries, known as ‘plaques' which causes blockages of the coronary arteries limiting blood flow to the heart. This is CAD.

How Common Is This?

As per a study, India reported increasing CAD prevalence since '60s; from 1% to 10% in urban populations and <1% to 6% in rural populations.¹

How Risky Is This?

CAD patients were 24 million in 2016. 18% of all deaths happened due to CAD (leading cause)

Useful Nutraceutical Supplementation

Macronutrients and micronutrients can prevent, control, and treat hypertension through numerous mechanisms related to vascular biology. Oxidative stress, inflammation and autoimmune dysfunction initiate and propagate hypertension and cardiovascular disease. There is a role for the selected use of single and multi-ingredient nutraceutical supplements, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals in the treatment of hypertension based on scientifically controlled studies which complement optimal nutrition, coupled with other lifestyle modifications.²

The antioxidant effects of curcumin have been shown to attenuate Adriamycin-induced cardiotoxicity and may prevent diabetic cardiovascular complications. The anti-thrombotic, anti-proliferative, and anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin and the effect of curcumin in decreasing the serum cholesterol level may protect against the pathological changes occurring with atherosclerosis. The p300-HAT inhibitory effects of curcumin have been demonstrated to ameliorate the development of cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure in animal models. The anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin may have the possibility of preventing atrial arrhythmias³ and the possible effect of curcumin for correcting the Ca (2+) homeostasis may play a role in the prevention of some ventricular arrhythmias.

“A study was conducted in which patients with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) to determine the effect of CoQ10 oral administration in dose 100 mg of the endothelium-dependent vasodilatation activity of extracellular superoxide dismutase (ecSOD). The results demonstrated that in CoQ10 treated group in comparison with placebo group: ecSOD, endothelium-dependent relaxation was statistically higher”

“CoQ10 administration (150 mg/per day) seems to reduce the IL-6 level in CAD patients. This fact demonstrates its anti-inflammatory properties. It is well known that pro-inflammatory state is a major component of chronic disease and significantly influences their progression.”⁴
